Reservation of a floating IP address
Floating IP is a public, static IP address. It allows you to announce the server's network interface. The advantage of a floating IP address is that it can be instantly moved from one instance to another instance in the same data-center.
The reservation of a floating IP address.
Floating IP can be obtained:
-
Inside the project, section Network → Floating IP → Create floating IP.
By default, the floating IP address will be issued without being assigned to a specific machine within the selected data center.
To create a floating IP address assigned to the server's network interface, select the Assign to existed instance option. In the drop-down menu, select the instance and private network interface that you want to announce.
Please note that without a private network interface on the server, you will not be able to bind a floating IP.
2. You can also add a floating IP in the instance creation menu
- In the Network settings section, select the Private interface type.
- Set the network and subnet for the network interface (for more information about setting up and creating a network, see the article Networks).
- Select the appropriate option for the floating IP address: Create a new floating IP, Use existing floating IP, or Without floating IP.
Managing floating IPs.
You can see the reserved IP addresses in the section Networking → Floating IP
Assigning the IP to a server
Unassigned floating IP can be linked to the server. Select the Assign to Instance option in the Instance column, or from the selector on the right.
In the appearing window, select the server and network interface for announcing.
Then click on Assign floating IP to bind the address to the network interface.
Detaching IP from the server
You can detach the floating IP address from the Instance. Click on the selector on the right from the necessary address and select the option Detach from Instance
Notice that the detached address is remaining reserved under your account. Billing will not stop as long as the IP address is kept in reserve.
Deleting a floating IP
You can delete a floating IP address from the reserve. To do this, select the “Delete” option in the selector on the right.
After deletion, the floating IP address will not be billed.
Note that you pay for the floating IP reservation itself, regardless of whether it is bound to a virtual machine or not.
